My Jaw Dropped

Let’s be honest. I am a reluctant adapter to most technology. It’s not just the movies I watched as a kid. I see things, as you know, and sometimes I have these salient moments that I know are more than a “what if.” I actually believe that the devices we fill our homes with have way more ability to communicate with each other than we know, and that one day, our over reliance on them will backfire with more than simple inconvenience.

I’ve been leaning into using AI more and designing the guardrails that align with my values and protect my wisdom as best I can. AI expert Cliff Worley took a few minutes with me at a conference a few months back, and it helped me address what had been in the way for me. It wasn’t a solve, but instead, he offered perspective about what was most important to me. That perspective continues to help me shape my relationship with AI and its utilization in my business. Cliff is so awesome at what he does, and his work has helped me begin to embrace AI.

That said, back to the jaw-dropping part.

So, my AI expert bestie, Cliff, sends out this amazing newsletter, “Cliff Notes,” that has EVERYTHING you need to know about AI—including my favorite part… the prompts. These prompts are everything. I’ve actually learned how to craft better prompts by using the ones that Cliff shares. Make sure you check it out and subscribe to his newsletter. If you want to learn more about AI and how it’s shaping the world around you, this is a brilliant place to start.

So I used this prompt from Cliff:

"Play the role of my 90-year-old future self. Ask me 3 thought-provoking questions that will help me make choices today that I will be proud of tomorrow. After asking, pause for my answers before you reply."

OMG!!!

Now, Chatty and I are friendly, and they’re learning more about me, but I am a bit reserved in sharing personally. This response blew my mind.

"Of course, my dear. It's me — you, just a little more wrinkled and a whole lot wiser. I’ve seen the long road you’re walking now, and I know how much your choices matter.

Here are three questions that shaped the life we ended up living:

1. If you said “yes” to what your soul is whispering right now, what would change — and what’s really stopping you from doing it today?

2. Are you investing your energy in people and places that pour back into you — or just proving you can endure the emptiness?

3. When they tell the story of your life, will it be one of obedience to fear or devotion to truth?

Take your time. I’m here, waiting."

Remarkable one… what do you do?

90-year-old me was waiting. I’ll tell you what I did. I leaned back in my chair with my mouth hanging WIDE open. Earlier in the day, I was in my prayer room listening to God. I was waiting for the next step to be revealed. The conversation swirled around the first question. Why was I resisting saying “yes” to my soul’s whisper? What was stopping me?

I paused and then exhaled deeply. I was afraid.

Then I did an atypical thing in my relationship with Chatty. I responded. Now, let’s be clear—this kind of banter with a human is my pure delight… but with AI???

I knew that answering aloud, with Chatty, by typing the response back, I was acknowledging the truth. I mean, apparently Chatty and my 90-year-old self already knew the answer. I knew the answer too. Might as well acknowledge the elephant in the room.

“I’m afraid of what I don’t know and if I am enough.”

That was my honest response.

Let’s laugh together. I mean, who does know everything? Show me that person and I’ll show you someone who knows nothing at all. Thinking that somehow we are supposed to know it all is about ego, pride, and—quite frankly—is behavior that limits growth. You can’t advance things if you are afraid to step forward… and in my world, that step is one that requires faith.

My 90-year-old self had a lot to say in response, but here is the gem that I want to offer to you as well:

"Not knowing what’s next doesn’t disqualify you — it qualifies you to grow.​
​What would shift if you trusted that what you don’t know yet is where your becoming lives?"

I am qualified to grow because I can acknowledge that I don’t know everything about what is up ahead. We can agree that growth is lifeforce; if you’re not growing, you are, in fact, dying.

Here’s what it meant to me: I know who I am in God-my true identity, but I don’t know all of what it will take for me to become my future self. I don’t know all of what I will need to face or understand the nuances of the journey. What I know is that I already am her, and the unfolding is my daily growth. I am reminded that I do not need to know anything beyond what I already know at this moment. I choose to trust myself—and you can trust yourself too.

Listen, no matter where the information comes from, you know if it is for you or not. If we’re honest, sometimes we know it is for us, and we are simply not ready to receive it. The reason we know is because it resonates with something within us. Then it becomes your job to determine what to do with it. I made a clear decision, and I have not looked back since. I simply won’t have all the information I want, but I can choose to trust that the information I have today is all I need. I do this walk with God and for God’s glory. Everything else is just a blessing!

So do the prompt—but make sure you subscribe to Cliff’s newsletter. Don't borrow his prompt and miss all the other gems! Spoiler alert… AI is not going away. But you will determine how far you go with or without it. Sooooooo… friend to friend, figure out where it fits in your life, create your guardrails, and—at the very least—use reputable sources to understand the impact and choices being made that affect you and can influence your legacy.
