Saying Yes Anyway

This is serious. I mean, I need you to lean in...

I am still healing! Dang, you already knew that, didn't you? How come nobody told me?

Seriously though, that is EXACTLY how it happens. You are minding your own business and boom! Something pops up to remind you that there is more work to do. Thank goodness for that though, because the alternative is stagnation and well, you know...

So, I am leaning into more public vulnerability. Heavy sigh. I am still healing.

I started a new series, "Saying Yes Anyway," which is all about how I don't actually know how to make sure my book gets into your hands. I mean, I am so clear that it matters, and yet, I am still in the way of it getting to you. This series is my commitment to talk about Healing Is Required daily while also inviting ideas for how to grow its reach and community. It may seem obvious to you, but for me, this was a big aha moment.

One of the catalysts was something that Luvvie Ajayi Jones said on a call. You know what happened, right? Everyone else disappeared as she leaned in and told me that my job was not just to write the book. She said I had a responsibility to get the book into the hands of the readers.

I know that other authors were there, but I didn't hear or see anything for a moment. I sat with the weight of that. I mean, did I really think the book was going to just walk up and knock on your neighbor's door?

I was called forward by one of my faves. Thank God she did, or we might never fully see the impact that this book will make. That moment was followed by several friends checking in on the book progress, my mom referring the hundredth reader to my book, and then a call that went like this:

"Anika. Go get your life together and get the book out in the world..." It was signed, love Naeema, who apparently got together with God and conspired to call me further still.

In truth, that is not exactly how it happened, but it's close enough. My soul has been calling me forward too...and the book looks at me like, 'Come on woman. I need to be free.'

See. That is what the healing narrative feels like front and center. The moments you are holding on to who you have been, while feeling into the desire to charge ahead with an inconsistent level of confidence and clarity. Being called forward while the other B, C and Z level priorities are vying for your attention.

The thing is, I know what I am supposed to do. Heal the world. I am not meant to do it alone and neither are you. That means we have to help others understand what we know, the truth that Healing Is Required.
