The Shift We Didn't Know We Needed (And Why It Changes Everything)

The other day, this exact picture showed up on my phone. I love my photo memory widget. Most days. Right now, the picture on my laptop is of me and my last beau, and honestly, looking at it now, it brings a smile instead of what could have been regret. Aaahhh. Time well spent and a love worth having for sure.
For me, the memories are sweet about 98% of the time. Isn't that a cool thing about perspective? You get to decide what you want to take away from anything that happens. The glass is half full or empty...you get to decide. We typically select what we remember on autopilot. Becoming aware of this part of how the brain works is literally life-changing. I mean, it is the difference between being stressed most of the time and experiencing joy. This is worth your exploration and attention. I want to share a bit about the women in this picture. We all met Kailei Carr, to my right, through different points on our life journey. Kailei is a one-in-a-million human. One of her many gifts is in being a connector. She trusts her knowing to connect people to who they are intended to meet. She is the co-host of The Beyonding Retreat, where the women in the picture and I convened in Costa Rica together two years ago. It was life changing. I had precious moments with each of them, deep conversations sharing our fears, future pivots, and some of the most amazing vegan food I've had. We experienced real, deep sisterhood and bonding.
It was so good, and yet, most of us didn't even know we needed it.
On the evening of my book launch party, I remember turning around and seeing Melissa's beautiful smile. She whispered to me, "I show up for my friends." I knew she had travels and a ton on her agenda. What a beautiful surprise! Melissa has such a beautiful heart for others and is so much fun to be with. I knew that she and everyone else that gathered that night came because they believe in me and who I am in the world. That is not lost on me, and I definitely felt the tears forming.
Over the years, I've seen Dr. Naeema show up with her hands open, ready to support and serve. I've watched her ebb between being the utility player and star from moment to moment. She knows how to get things done while rolling on the floor cracking up. Dr. Kanika is brilliant, inquisitive, thoughtful, and offers the humor you need in unexpected ways. Everytime we connect I learn something new about her that endears her to me even more. Kailei is an OG in our community, and my life. You know, the people you meet who are such pillars that you can't remember life before them? That is Kailei for me- a sister-friend, mentor, trusted confidant, leader and spiritual connector. Yes, and this is just a representation of my tribe. I know, I am blessed.
Let me tell you why this matters.
There are things that I had to shift to get to this moment.
I had to give up believing that I could handle all that life sent my way by myself.
I had to let go of the idea that I wasn't worth showing up for, even though I was and am committed to showing up for others.
I had to create an environment where it was safe to be seen and to allow the same for others.
I had to learn how to receive... and this is still a work in progress for me.
These shifts were worth it. Being in community is so good, yet we don't even know we need it.
We were intended to do life in community with one another. It really matters. It is a bit of human nature to say "I'm good" when you are really struggling. Community is about creating reciprocal relationships. It is about allowing yourself to be present for yourself and others. Your community will cover you, sit with you, uplift you, call you out, and make sure your boat rises along with theirs.
Wow. Yes. All of that. And for some reason, you thought you didn't really need it.
Just like Healing Is Required. Just like Holding Space. Just Like Crowned. You see, the access for what we want in our lives is around us all the time. Much of the time, we are just "making it," so we are not even present to what we actually need. Something happens when you start showing up fully in life. You begin to see that there are spaces you get to choose to fill. New ideas, information, friends, community... you get it. All of this is a choice to enhance your life. It exists. It is simply a matter of you deciding to allow your life to expand by leaning into what you need.
Before I met most of the women in my photo, God told me it was time to change my circle. I was a bit resistant. I had all of the typical fears: What if they don't accept me, or they think my being prophetic is weird? What if I don't fit in? You name it. But God was showing me that my community reflected my elevation. My friends, new lessons, challenges, and lots of new places were needed for my next chapter.
I didn't know I needed it, but God did. And I am so grateful.
There is an answer for any place in your life where you feel stuck. There is a support system for anything you need. There are people waiting to experience your light and brilliance as an access to see themselves and the world differently. You need us and we need you.
And you didn't know that you even needed it. But you do.
