Why Being RIGHT is Wrong

Part 1 of The Miracle of What We Don’t Know- 3 part series

"What You Talkin' 'Bout Anika?"

How can my being right be wrong?

Alright. All Right... Always Right...

Part of our human existence is marked by the desire to be “right”. Even in the more conscious members of our collective, the ego reminds us of its presence in moments when we shout internally, “Yes, I knew it! I was right.” There is a desire within us to be right that is more closely connected to celebrating remembering than it is about the surface level of being “right” to satisfy our ego. They are not the same, although it takes time to reconnect to our truth within to discern the difference.

Let’s explore why the desire exists in a way that helps you center your truth. At the surface level, our human experience, we have been conditioned to sort things into categories. We are taught lessons through competition that mirror the structure of societal laws. None of this is inherently bad, in fact, it is a part of our exploration about how things work in the world.

The interest in right and wrong is derived from grading systems in schools, familial and societal values, laws as well as the development of our own internal compass. The complexity that exists is that at a foundational level, there is a zero-sum game. Things are either right or wrong. Being able to see multiple possibilities becomes increasingly complex for those who cling to a more absolute viewpoint.

I often see this in relationships. As an advisor to executive leaders, I often hear the phrase, “but was I right, though?” as we explore interpersonal conflict in the workplace. Even in the moments where there is something more important at stake, the leader often wants the assurance that they were “right.” What would that assurance actually mean? The answer is complex if we desire to operate at a higher level of knowing. It actually doesn’t matter if it was “right” if the outcome is more important.

If the goal or objective is to create a cohesive team that is at stake for each other, and the business, putting being “right” before nurturing a culture of understanding, creating space for varied perspectives and leading from truth rather than ego, then there is no “right” that can be assessed in the moment. In truth, we will know if the decision to respond in a certain way was the best possible decision once the following chain of events unfolds.

The truth is, we know this to be true.

But our conditioning is really good at reminding us that there is a reward for being right. There is a rush we feel that brings us back to our youth, popping our chest out to say, “I was RIGHT!” We desire the endorphin rush that comes at that moment. But what happens next? There is no parade, no tracker that pops out to note another “R” hashmark, nothing that really changes other than a temporary feeling of satisfaction. That feeling is followed by searching for more moments to declare that you are right.

Something happens when we let go of the desire to be right.

At the level of our truth within, we recognize that we are connected to the source, which includes infinite wisdom. At the soul level, we know that truth exists beyond what we know precisely in this moment. Our soul desires that we seek... (It gets really good here because I tell you the part you really want to know so click below to read more...)

Spoiler Alert: The next part of this series dives deeper into why it takes time for us to recall everything we already know.

Peace and Blessings!

Living Beneath Your Privilege

Live Boldly in the Light of Your Birthright

There's a profound truth in understanding your potential and working diligently not to live beneath your privilege.

This might sound revelatory and daunting in equal measure, but cultivating a lifestyle that reflects the abundance and possibilities of your birthright is a journey worth taking. If you've ever marveled at how challenging it might seem to fully embrace your potential and break beyond the limitations of societal expectations, you're certainly not alone.

In sharing countless conversations and insights, I've realized many face this existential challenge. Some effortlessly step into their destined path, while others, despite knowing their calling, struggle to reconcile their present experience with the fullness of who they are meant to be.

Here's a key piece of advice that might surprise you:

You were designed to live an Opulent Life!

Defining opulence, not as excessive luxury but as a tailored reflection of a remarkable life infused with your divine potential, is vital to stepping into your birthright. This isn't just about material wealth; it's about accepting the full scope of potential and opportunities available to you. It's recognizing that the resources you need, whether spiritual, emotional, or material, are part of your journey and are there for you to seize.

The challenge lies in our perception of words. Initially, I grappled with the word "opulence" until I redefined it in alignment with my divine purpose and truth. It required shifting my perspective to see opulence not as excess, but as abundance in alignment with my birthright. It meant seeing opulence as something that is not simply obtainable but as desirable. I had to work through the mindset and stories attached to wealth, being set apart and identity. All of those stories were true for me at some time in the past, but no longer aligned to what I know about life today.

Shifting Your Mindset

Ask yourself these questions:

1. In what areas of your life do you feel you're living beneath your privilege?

2. What connotations have you attached to abundance and opulence that might be limiting you?

3. How might redefining these concepts encourage you to step into your full potential?

4. What emotional, physical, or spiritual practices can you incorporate to align more closely with your birthright?

5. How does understanding your prescribed role in the world change your view on your current challenges?

Capture the key stories or thoughts in your journal so that you can begin to reframe them based on what you know today and what you desire for your life tomorrow.

What's Inspiring Me This Week:

Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center

Milestone’s Circles

I achieved a bucket list item last week. I always wanted to be on a major marquee in NYC. As a child, I wanted to be an actress so I am sure that my dream was to have my name in lights in a broadway sign or perhaps hosting SNL as a well-known soap opera star. As an adult, I imagined it would be the achievements of my book that lead me to this type of accomplishment, but this moment is even sweeter because I did not know that it was coming.

Yes! It’s me on the NASDAQ Center Marquee as a graduate of the Milestones Circles Entrepreneurship Program.

I joined the Nasdaq Milestone’s Circles program as a way to grow my network and to strengthen my business savvy. My accountability partners and milestones Circles sisters have been a source of wisdom and encouragement, which is critical to success as an entrepreneur at any stage of business. I identified a couple of milestones, one during the program and one at graduation that have helped me to further catapult my business and brand. Perhaps the power of slowing down to refocus on my why, values and to choose one thing that would really advance my leadership was exactly what I needed at year 2 of my entrepreneurial journey.

What I am most inspired by is the ingenuity of the entrepreneurs that I am connected to. Every day, there are emails from my circle sisters announcing events, books, products and programs. It is a source of consistent inspiration and I am so grateful that I get to witness them leaning into their gifts.

The Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center has a ton of resources, learning modules and more for entrepreneurs. I was blown away by the amount of free content that is available online. I recommend checking out their resources here if you are learning more about a specific topic or are just looking to sharpen your own saw.

The Power of Your Yes Something happened the moment I said “yes.” It’s been present in almost every big moment in my life. My saying yes changes things. It is almost as if the change is instantaneous within me and happening all around me. My “yes” opens and closes doors. It catalyzes new opportunities and creates new connections. My “yes” is so powerful. I wonder if you know how powerful your “yes” is. In truth, you wield the very same energy when you say yes and commit to holding the vision...

While I Was Busy Loving You I wonder how many hours an individual spends thinking about their love relationships. From being a lovestruck teenager to navigating adult dating to keeping a marriage healthy and connected, there has to be thousands of hours racked up. If you include the time spent with best friends, therapists and any other listening ear, we can almost double the hours spent thinking about the relationships. While they are important conversations to have, we are often focused on...

The Path To Safety Within The truth is we all need healing. Our healing journey is individual AND collective. Our healing is complex, especially right now. We are in the midst of continued repealing of laws, selling off of historical landmarks, and quietly redesigning with the “American Way” is…without the full voice of America. It’s an uncomfortable time for the majority of people. The uncertainty continues to mount and more seems to be revealed by the moment. In moments like these, we...
